Undergraduate Fellows Program

Since its founding, UVA Jewish Studies has offered courses in a variety of subjects for undergraduate students. But in 2023, the Jewish Studies Program developed a new way for faculty and students to interact with and explore Jewish culture and history, languages and literatures, and Judaism: the Jewish Studies Undergraduate Fellows Program.

Jewish Studies faculty members nominate talented students who have taken at least one Jewish Studies course, and a select group of students from that list are invited to become Undergraduate Fellows. These Fellows will have the opportunity to get to know Jewish Studies faculty, apply for research funds, and benefit from special events to meet with visiting scholars. Three times a semester, the fellows and Jewish Studies faculty will gather for dinner and discussion, during which a faculty member or visiting speaker will give a short presentation to start the conversation.

Thus far, Jewish Studies Undergraduate Fellows have had the opportunity to attend culinary classes on Jewish cuisine, participate in unique workshops with Jewish Studies faculty, and personally meet multiple Jewish Studies scholars from around the world.
