Visiting Ph.D. Student Fellowship Competition, University of Virginia
University of Virginia Jewish Studies invites advanced Ph.D. students from any academic discipline working on topics in Jewish Studies to apply for its Visiting Ph.D. Student Fellowship, which carries an award of $6,000 plus travel expenses. Recipients will spend three or four weeks at UVA, working with Jewish Studies affiliated faculty, presenting their work in-progress, and being part of a vibrant academic community. Students are responsible for their own housing, insurance, and meals. Jules Roos and Samuel Grunfeld Award for Israel Studies
The Jules Roos and Samuel Grunfeld Fellowship for Israel Studies supports summer research travel to Israel by UVA faculty and Ph.D. students in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. The award is intended for summer research travel in Israel, but it may be used for travel during the academic year, subject to permission from the Director of Jewish Studies. Most years the Jules Roos and Samuel Grunfeld Fund awards two fellowships, each in the amount of $3,000, one to a graduate student and one to a faculty member. The Jules Roos and Samuel Grunfeld Fellowship is made possible through the generosity of Aaron Nir (COL ’87) and Daniel Nir of New York.
Samuel and Evelyn Linden Scholarship in Jewish Studies for the Study of Peace and Social Justice in the Middle East
The Samuel and Evelyn Linden Scholarship allows both undergraduate and graduate students at the University to engage in advanced research, study, fieldwork, and project organization to help understand and promote dialogue, peace, and justice among Israeli Jews, Israeli Arabs, and Palestinians. The mission of the scholarship is to nourish scholarly excellence combined with citizenship, social responsibility, and work towards intercultural understanding. Successful applications will propose a course of study, a research project, or a creative program that is at home both inside and outside of academia, involves real-life communities, and exposes the applicant to rigorous learning as well as to human encounter. Scholarships, which range from $3,000–$3,500, may be used towards study and research in any field, encouraging a wide range of methods and approaches.
