
On March 3, 2025, Professor of Jewish Studies and Religious Studies Elizabeth Shanks Alexander presented on Jewish Torah pointers, more commonly known as "yads." This event took place at the Fralin Museum of Art in light of their first exhibition of Judaica: a unique collection of Torah pointers that, as the exhibit description notes, are “made of gold, silver, pearls, and jewels as well as badger hair bristles, a whale’s tooth, porcupine quills, whitefish vertebrae, recycled cans, brass bullet casings, and even a skateboard.
