Event Series
Jewish Studies Alumni Series
The Jewish Studies Alumni Series hosts former UVA Jewish Studies graduate students and fellows for a discussion of their postgraduate research and scholarship. This series hopes to connect Jewish Studies alumni with current fellows to inspire their own research, as well as strengthen the relationships between alumni and the program.

The inaugural Jewish Studies Alumni Series event hosted Rebecca Epstein-Levi (UVA MA '12, PhD '17), Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies at Vanderbilt University. Professor Epstein-Levi discussed her book, When We Collide: Sex, Social Risk, and Jewish Ethics with UVA Jewish Studies' Professor Elizabeth Shanks Alexander.
Being Jewish in America Today Series
The Being Jewish in America Today Series examines the challenges and joys of being Jewish in America through public conversations with American Jewish artists, rabbis, writers, theologians, and more. Former speakers have included Rabbi Angela Buchdahl, poet Adam Kirsch, actress Lili Rosen, and theologian Arnold Eisen.
Learning Together Lunch Hour Series
The Learning Together Lunch Hour Series began in response to the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel and the onset of the war in Gaza. These events invite all UVA faculty, staff, and students to lunch and a short presentation by faculty about some aspect of the conflict with the goals of education and conversation.
