Mark J. Friedman Family Jewish Studies Graduate Fellows Program
The Jewish Studies Program at the University of Virginia coordinates the interdisciplinary Mark J. Friedman Family Jewish Studies Graduate Fellows Program. Graduate students from any UVA department working on any subject related to Jewish history, culture, thought, practice, or tradition, as well as students with intellectual interests in Jewish Studies, may self-nominate or be nominated by a Jewish Studies faculty member to become Friedman Family Graduate Fellows of the Jewish Studies Program.
Fellows are invited to be part of the intellectual community of the Jewish Studies Program and convene periodically as a cohort for informal gatherings and research workshop presentations. The fellowship, which is renewable, will carry a stipend of $500 to be used for books or other related research expenses.
Nomination Process
For self-nominations, please provide a brief CV and a one-page statement describing your current work and research interests (as they pertain to some aspect of Jewish Studies) and explaining your interest in becoming a Friedman Family Graduate Fellow in the Jewish Studies Program.
Faculty nominations should include a brief paragraph or two of endorsement, explaining the nature of the student’s work and its connection with Jewish Studies. Faculty may nominate more than one graduate student.
For more information about the nomination process, please contact Jewish Studies Director Professor Jennifer Geddes at jlg2u@virginia.edu.
