UVA Jewish Studies is pleased to announce that Christoph Schulte, Professor of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the University of Potsdam, will deliver a lecture entitled “From Mendelssohn to Adorno: Modern Jewish Intellectuals, Skepticism, and Progress” at 12 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025 in New Cabell Hall 236. Lunch will be served, and a time for questions and conversation will follow the presentation.

Professor Schulte has written over 150 articles, essays, and reviews, as well as five books, including most recently Zimzum: God and the Origin of the World, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in the Jewish Culture and Contexts book series. The book explores “zimzum”—the idea that God engages in self-limitation in order to create the world—across the Jewish and Christian intellectual history of Europe and North America over more than four centuries. The lecture is open to the public; no registration required.
