On Monday, April 7, 2025, UVA Jewish Studies hosted Christoph Schulte, Professor of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the University of Potsdam, to deliver a lecture entitled, "From Mendelssohn to Adorno: Modern Jewish Intellectuals, Skepticism, and Progress." Throughout the lecture, Professor Schulte traced the evolution of Jewish thought on the notion of historical progress in light of Modernity, technological advancements, and the World Wars of the 20th century.
