Bronfman Professor Emeritus of Modern Judaic Studies and Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies
Peter Ochs is Edgar Bronfman Professor Emeritus of Modern Judaic Studies at the University of Virginia, where he directed the Religious Studies Graduate Programs in “Scripture, Interpretation, and Practice,” an interdisciplinary approach to the Abrahamic traditions, and he directed the UVA Research Initiative on "Religion, Politics, and Conflict."
He is co-founder of The Society for (Jewish) Textual Reasoning and of The (Abrahamic) Society for Scriptural Reasoning. Ochs writes and teaches about Jewish philosophy; rabbinics and semiotics; comparative Jewish, Christian and Muslim scriptural interpretation and reasoning; and religion and peacebuilding.
