Avram is a third-year doctoral student in Religious Studies studying Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity with a focus on rabbinic literature. He holds degrees in rabbinic literature and Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and religion from Columbia University, as well as rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School. His research interests center around questions of law and interpretation in early rabbinic texts: what characterizes these texts as legal? How did rabbis approach both traditional practices and authoritative texts as aiming towards a legal system? More broadly, he is interested in legal texts and scriptural interpretation throughout Jewish history, from the Bible to the present day.
