Austin Benson

PhD Candidate, English

Austin Benson is a Ph.D. candidate in the English Department, where he works primarily on Middle English, Anglo-Norman, and Anglo-Latin literature. His dissertation, The Trilingual Book: Multilingualism, Manuscript Culture, and the Shaping of Insular Verse ca. 1160–ca. 1340, traces the development of poetry in these languages in the surviving trilingual manuscripts of post-Conquest Britain. More broadly, Austin studies the sociolinguistic and manuscript cultures of high and later medieval Britain. As a part of this interest, he is currently carrying out research into Anglo-Jewish poetry and the manuscripts of Christian Hebraists in England.
