Meet Visiting Ph.D. Fellow Anaël Malet

Anaël Malet, a Ph.D. Student in Jewish Thought at Bar-Ilan University, traveled to UVA this September as Jewish Studies' second Visiting Ph.D. Fellow.

While at UVA, Anaël was able to attend a number of events, including the Jewish Studies Welcome Celebration, where she met several Jewish Studies faculty and student fellows.

On September 17, Anaël presented research from her dissertation at the first Jewish Studies Colloquium of the year. She compared how Jewish thinkers Yeshayahu Leibowitz, Hermann Cohen, and Hannah Arendt thought about ethics, will, and action. Lively discussion followed her presentation, as attendees sought to understand the similarities and differences between these complex thinkers.

Anaël holds a B.A. with honors in Philosophy from the Sorbonne and in Political Science from Sciences Po Paris. She moved to Israel in 2015 and earned an M.A. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. To learn more about Anaël and the Visiting Ph.D. Fellowship, click here.
