Glenn Dynner

This fall, UVA Jewish Studies is excited to welcome Professor Glenn Dynner, the new Jay Berkowitz Professor of Jewish History and a scholar of East European Jewry, with a focus on Hasidism and the Haskalah, Polish-Jewish relations, Jewish economic history, and popular religion. He is the author of Men of Silk: The Hasidic Conquest of Polish Jewish Society (a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award) and Yankel's Tavern: Jews, Liquor and Life in the Kingdom of Poland. Professor Dynner comes to us from Fairfield University, where he was Bennett Professor of Judaic Studies and director of the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies.
