On Thursday, April 10, Jewish Studies faculty member Zvi Gilboa (Middle Eastern & South Asian Languages & Cultures) delivered the last Learning Together Lunch Hour of the academic year, on the subject of, "Pain in Text and Color: Artistic Responses to October 7th." Professor Gilboa discussed several artistic works of various media created in response to the October 7th Hamas attack in Israel. Works included a children's book written by a victim of the attack, a comic book interviewing various witnesses and victims, memorial and advocacy posters for Israeli hostages, a theatrical performance critiquing Isarel's invasion of Gaza, as well as several Israeli hip-hop songs that called for vengeance and justice. While each artistic work displayed various perspectives about the attack and ensuing actions of Israel, Professor Gilboa emphasized that he wanted to present each work objectively, free from moral valuations, as a means of understanding the grieving process of Israelis impacted by this tragic event.
