Katherine Churchill
PhD Candidate, English
Katherine Churchill is a PhD candidate in the Department of English, where she studies and teaches medieval literature. Her dissertation project, The Archival Turn: Poetry and Posterity in Late Medieval England and France, traces how changes in the storage and organization of books and documents transformed representations of futurity in fourteenth- and fifteenth- century literature. In her work, she shows how the history of medieval Jewish communities in England dovetails with the history of the English archive as an institution, and how the idea of a coherent English national textual heritage emerged through antisemitic laws and violence.
