Mark Friedman, son of Herbert Friedman

The Herbert Friedman Graduate Fund for Holocaust Studies was established this semester in memory of Holocaust survivor Herbert Friedman by his son Mark Friedman and other family members. The fund provides financial support to an outstanding graduate student whose work focuses on some aspect of the Holocaust.

Born in Vienna in 1924, Herbert Friedman was, at the age of 14, one of 10,000 children who were sent to England on the Kindertransport [the children’s transport] to escape Nazi persecution. He was later reunited with his parents and brother in the United States, where he served in the US Army and became a successful pharmacist.
