Undergraduate Fellows Program

UVA undergraduates have filled our Jewish Studies courses for over two decades, but now we have another way for faculty and students to interact and explore Jewish culture and history, Jewish languages and literatures, and Judaism: our Jewish Studies Undergraduate Fellows Program. Jewish Studies faculty members were invited to nominate talented students who had taken at least one Jewish Studies course, and a select group of students from that list were invited to become Inaugural Jewish Studies Undergraduate Fellows. Our eighteen JSUFs will have the opportunity to get to know Jewish Studies faculty, apply for research funds, and benefit from special events and opportunities to meet with visiting speakers. Three times a semester, the fellows and Jewish Studies faculty will gather for dinner and discussion, during which a faculty member or visiting speaker will give a short presentation to start the conversation. This November, the JSUFs enjoyed a culinary workshop on Sephardic cuisine with the chefs from Richmond restaurant JewFro, as part of the Sephardic Lives conference.
