Jennifer L. Geddes is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and a member of the Jewish Studies faculty at the University of Virginia. She teaches courses in Holocaust Studies, modern Jewish thought, evil and suffering, and ethics and literature.

She is the author of Kafka’s Ethics of Interpretation: Between Tyranny and Despair (Northwestern University Press, 2016); co-editor, with John K. Roth and Jules Simon, of The Double Binds of Ethics after the Holocaust: Salvaging the Fragments (Palgrave MacMillan, 2009); and editor of Evil After Postmodernism: Histories, Narratives, Ethics (Routledge, 2001). She recently gave the 2016 Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Annual Lecture on the Holocaust, entitled “Holocaust Testimony, Evil and Suffering,” at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She is currently working on a book on the ethics of response to Holocaust testimony.
