Anaël Malet

Fall 2025 Visiting Ph.D. Fellow

BIO

Anaël Malet traveled to UVA in September of 2025 as Jewish Studies' second Visiting Ph.D. Fellow. At the time, Malet was a Ph.D. Student in Jewish Thought at Bar-Ilan University.

During her fellowship, Anaël continued her research for her dissertation on how Jewish philosophers Yeshayahu Leibowitz, Hermann Cohen, and Hannah Arendt thought about ethics, will, and action. She presented on these topics at a Jewish Studies Colloquium, where lively discussion followed as Jewish Studies faculty and fellows sought to understand the similarities and differences between these complex thinkers.

While at UVA, Anaël was also able to attend a number of events, including the Jewish Studies Welcome Celebration and the 25-Year Jewish Studies Anniversary, where she met and bonded with several Jewish Studies faculty and student fellows.
