About the Event
UVA Jewish Studies will host former Jay Berkowitz Professor of Jewish History and UVA Jewish Studies Director James Loeffler to deliver the 2026 Paul and Dorothy Grob Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, April 29th at 5:30 PM in Nau Hall room 101. His lecture is entitled “Charlottesville 2017: Antisemitism at the Crossroads of American Hatred." Reception to follow. This event is in-person only and open to the public; no registration required.
About Dr. Loeffler
Dr. Loeffler is currently the Felix Posen Professor of Modern Jewish History at Johns Hopkins University, where he serves as director of the Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Program in Jewish Studies. He is a scholar of modern Jewish history, writing on topics ranging from antisemitism to Zionism, with a focus on the overlooked ties between the Jewish past and the global present in politics, law, and culture. His new book, Exceptional Hatred: Antisemitism and the Fight Over Free Speech in Modern America is due to release later this year.
Parking
Paid parking is available at the UVA Central Grounds Garage (400 Emmet Street S), a 10-minute walk from Nau Hall. Free parking is available after 5PM in Culbreth Garage (130 Culbreth Road), a 15-minute walk from Nau Hall.
